T Yamamoto, S Uek. The role of central serotonergic mechanisms on head-twitch and backward locomotion induced by hallucinogenic drugs. Pharmacology, biochemistry, and behavior. vol 14. issue 1. 1981-04-24. PMID:6258178. |
these results suggest that 5-ht receptors innervated with the ascending 5-ht pathway originating in the m-r play a vital role in the manifestation of hallucinogen-induced head-twitch. |

J Z Nowak, B Bielkiewicz, U Lebrecht, A Kordecka, C Maslinsk. Effects of the histamine H2-receptor agonists dimaprit and 4-methylhistamine on the central noradrenaline and serotonin system. Agents and actions. vol 10. issue 1 Pt 2. 1980-08-28. PMID:6155770. |
dimaprit had negligible effect on the serotonin system while 4-methylhistamine and histamine decreased serotonin and simultaneously increased 5-hydroxyindolcacetic acid. |

5-ht projections to the vlgn and the amyg were destroyed by 5,7-dihydroxytryptamine (5,7-dht, a relatively selective toxin for 5-ht neurons) injected directly into the lateral ventricle or the ascending 5-ht pathway in the ventromedial tegmentum area. |

B Fjallan. Neuroleptic influence on hyperthermia induced by 5-hydroxytryptophan and p-methoxy-amphetamine in MAOI-pretreated rabbits. Psychopharmacology. vol 63. issue 2. 1979-10-24. PMID:38473. |
it is concluded that both 5-ht and catecholamine (dopamine) receptor blockade is required to antagonize 5-htp hyperthermia and that antagonism of p-ma induced hyperthermia is primarily a result of influence on the 5-ht system. |

our findings indicate that tr has a double effect on the central 5-ht system: at low doses it acts as a 5-ht antagonist, whereas at higher ones--as a 5-ht agonist. |

these data indicate a modulatory role of the 5-ht system in the hyperthermic response to dopaminergic agonists, such as d-amphetamine and apomorphine, and rule out 5-ht involvement in the hyperpyrexia induced by pyrogen. |

unilateral injections of the serotonin neurotoxin, 5,7-dihydroxytryptamine (dht), at various points along the 5-ht pathway to the forebrain produce a turning syndrome associated with alterations of dopamine synthesis in the ipsilateral striatum. |

the evidence may be briefly summarized as follows:(1) on the same amygdaloid cells, both iontophoresis of serotonin (5-ht) and electrical stimulation of the drn markedly inhibited spontaneous single unit activities; (2) the latency of drn-induced inhibition was relatively short and is compatible with the conduction velocities (which were determined by antidromic activation of the 5-ht pathway) of unmyelinated 5-ht fibers; (3) destruction of 5-ht projections by 5,7-dihydroxytryptamine (5,7-dht) or pharmacological depletion of 5-ht by parachlorophenylalanine (pcpa) prevented the inhibitory responsed to drn stimulation in the great majority of cells studied; (4) in pcpa-pretreated animals, injection of 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-htp) reversed the pcpa effect, restoring the responses of amygdaloid cells to drn stimulation. |

the serotonin antagonists sq 10,631 and methysergide reduced the pimozide-induced elevation in prolactin levels, suggesting that part of the increase in prolactin following dopaminergic blockage may result from the action of a tonically stimulatory serotonin system that is normally masked by the intense tonic inhibition by the dopaminergic system. |
